I have the same problem from the notebook, even when I plug it into the modem directly, bypassing the router.

Whats next?

The windows firewall is set to allow communicator.  What do I do for the Linksys Router WRT54GS?

Is there anything I can do on my end, or is this a voip.com issue only?   Please respond.

Thanks in advance.

I am using Communicator 1.640. I am not sure if it happens with mor than 1 number.  It is too embarassing to keep calling people and have the connection lost.  This morning, the call went through in what seemed to be a "normal" fashion.  Then the call ends after about a minute.  At least the Linksys ATA seems to work well now - it is just the softphone version that is giving me problems - it really has been non-functional for months now.  Please help - I need this phone.

- sends call request - after about 45 secs, call fails then retries - sometimes it calls again and goes through - sometimes not - soemtines I can talk for about 1 minute, then softphone hangs up.

Can you help?

Thank you very much!  The Linksys ATA device seems to be working immediately upon pluging it in!  Do you want the old Grandstreams back?
Can I get any kind of credit for the past 2 months that I have not been able to use the phone?

Thanks

Mark

I could not find where to check my shipping address, only my billing address.

We have the largest PO Box available:  PO Box xxxx, San Clemente, CA 92673   -  this is the preferred address for mail and small packages.

If you are shipping by UPS or FEDEX or similar, the physical address is: 2109 xxx xxxxxx, San Clemente, CA 92673

Thanks

Well, I still have the same issues.  The softphone works most of the time.  The voice quality on outgoing calls is bad still. It is fuzzy and  broken. I think I have tried everything you have asked that I do.  AT&T dug up the connection in the street and now I have the downstream speed that I have paying for: about 2.3-2.6 Mbits, about 0.42 upstream; all of the other statistics look good as well: jitter, packet loss, etc.

I understand that the Grandstream 386 has been replaced and is no longer being sold.

On 10-07-09 you said that the only other alternative is to send an ata with router to put in front of the GS router.  Maybe we should try this before I give up and try another service.

What do you think?   I am willing to try nearly anything and I think I have been very patient, but I really need this system to work very soon.

Thanks,

Mark

I have rebooted the network.  Still pretty much the same.  Red flashing light, I can make calls out with rj11 in phone1 but there is a delay of about 30 seconds to make the call; no dial tone; sometimes the call is ended abructly; call receivers tell me that there is static or that my voice is breaking up.  AT&T found a problem in the street with the dsl line. They will be here to rip out the sidewalk and run new wire to the house next week.  This should increase my speed and hopefully the line quality substantially.  I will keep testing speed and quality to see what happens and let you know after they are done.

I will keep you informed.

I tried to connect directly to the modem as I had previously.  Still got flashing red light, no dial tone, calls not going through.
I have a Panasonic 5.8ghz phone.  I do not have another phone to test.  I tried 2 different rj11 phone cables (4-wire).

So, then  I reconnected to modem and router and ata. Here is something that is interesting:  if I plug the rj11 into phone 2 on the ata I get a dial tone, but cannot complete a call.  If I connect it to phone 1 I get no dial tone but I can complete a call if I enter the number into the phone and then press talk.  Then I ran 4-wire rj11 cables from both phone 1 and phone 2 to a splitter one rj11 line to the phone and now I can hear a dial tone and make calls, however, the call ends after 1 minute and I hear a busy tone.

I just left myself a voice message on my cell phone from the voip phone.  The voice is very scratchy and broken.  After approximatley 1 minute the call is ended abrutly and a get a busy signal.

If I just use the rj11 from phone 1, there is no dial tone, the call goes through but the voice is very scratchy and broken when I leave a voice mail, the call is not cut off after one minute.  This is the same condition I believe I had at the beginning of all of this episode.

This all seems very strange to me and that the system should not have to be "jury-rigged" to make it work.  There seem to be too many variable for a user to have to deal with - should not it be incumbant upon the phone company to make this work?  I have spent hours on this with no results.

What do you think?

OK, I contacted AT&T who now owns the dsl service I bought years ago from SBC, formerly Pacific Bell (what a hassle!).  They say that they do not block any ports on the modem which is an older model that does not have bridging, whatever that is.  They say that the signal goes straight through.  I also asked them about my upload and download speeds (656 kbps download and 329 kbps upload) which even they thought was low for service that is supoosed to get up to 3Mbps.  I have a trouble ticket with them for the speed issue, but did not get anywhere on the port 5060/bridging issue.  They are supposed to contact me today about the speed trouble.

Any ideas?  I am trying desperately to keep this voip service .............

OK,  the good news is that I got the new ata this afternoon.
However, it still is not functioning properly.

I shut down both computers, the router, modem and wireless printer and ata; then turned on and plugged in the modem, router and ata. I did this twice with the same results:
Red flashing light, no dial tone, no busy tone.
If I pick up the handset and enter in the phone number I wish to call and press talk, the light turns green and dials the number and I can talk.  I have only tried this to my own land line and my cell phone - it is too embarrassing to try to call someone else.
If I press talk on the phone, the light turns green but there is no dial tone or busy signal.  Calls are  going through.  My wife says she can hear me when I do call form the voip phone. If I call my cell phone and leave a message, it is a little staticy, but I can understand it OK.
I am not too sure what to do next.  My headset if broken right now, but if I use softphone, the call rings through, although I am not sure of the voice quality because of no headset.
I think I will try it a couple of more times tomorrow and let you know what happens.
If you have any other suggestions let me know and I will try them.

Mark

Thanks - I hope it works!

If you are sending by UPS or FEDEX, Our physical address is:  2109 Via Gavilan, San Clemente, CA 92673

If you are sending by US Mail and the package is not very large, which I would not think that it would be, then send to: PO Box 74150, San Clemente, CA 92673.

We do not receive mail at our physical address, only packages from UPS, etc.

Let me know if there is anything I can do in the meantime.

Thanks

Mark

Still blinking red with busy signal.............

It is an ALCATEL Speed Touch Home Modem  Model # 3EC18804GCAA01.
Nothing has changed on the network.

I updated the firmware on my linksys WRT54GS wireless router this morning.

I am connected via SBC dsl to a speed touch home modem - then to wireless router - then to ht386 via ethernet cable.

voip quality test:
jitter- 2.6ms
packet loss 0.0%
mos score: 4.1

speed test:
download - 2.29Mbps
upload - 431 kbps
quality of service - 52%

Route test:

11 hops, low
max response time 86ms good
avg repsonse time 40ms good
max packet loss 0.0%
hop 5 responding erratically
hop 6 responding erratically

The red light on the ht386 blinks red every couple of seconds.
green light on ethernet is steady
yellow light on ethernet is flashing

i have tried 2 diferent ethernet cables.  powered off modem and router. connected dierctly to router with ethernet cable.
If i enter a number into the phone and then press talk, i get a busy signal, the light on the gs386 turns green and the call goes through, voice breaks up.
if I just pick up the phone, press talk, i get a busy signal the gs light turns green and the call goes through but the voice breaks up.

Also, when I dial ***00 I get ip address of 192.168.002.103

Is there anything else I can tell you or that I need to do?

Mark

OK, I will work on this.  The problem is I still have to work!  It may take a little while to accomplish all of these tests, etc.

This happens in all area codes that I have tried.  I don't like to try it anymore because it reflects negatively on my business.  I am using the soft phone sometimes and a wireless hand set other times.  It has happend from my office on Washington State as well as the one here in California.
