Topic: softphone calls fail

- sends call request - after about 45 secs, call fails then retries - sometimes it calls again and goes through - sometimes not - soemtines I can talk for about 1 minute, then softphone hangs up.

Can you help?

Re: softphone calls fail

Is this one particular number you are calling?  I see some attempts tonight to the number ending in 9784, but no other numbers from your softphone.  Which softphone are you using?

Re: softphone calls fail

I am using Communicator 1.640. I am not sure if it happens with mor than 1 number.  It is too embarassing to keep calling people and have the connection lost.  This morning, the call went through in what seemed to be a "normal" fashion.  Then the call ends after about a minute.  At least the Linksys ATA seems to work well now - it is just the softphone version that is giving me problems - it really has been non-functional for months now.  Please help - I need this phone.

Re: softphone calls fail

Is there anything I can do on my end, or is this a voip.com issue only?   Please respond.

Thanks in advance.

Re: softphone calls fail

I signed onto your softphone and placed a test call and it lasted well over a minute without any interruption from my internet connection.  Please make sure that if you have any firewalls installed on your computer that they are disabled or you set them to allow all communication from the communicator, this includes windows firewall.  If this is done you may want to make sure that your internet connection is not intermittently dropping.

Re: softphone calls fail

The windows firewall is set to allow communicator.  What do I do for the Linksys Router WRT54GS?

Re: softphone calls fail

Well we could try plugging your computer directly into your modem and make a test call to rule out the router.

Re: softphone calls fail

I cannot do it from the desktop computer (vista ultimate), but I will try an old laptop running xp pro and post the results.

Re: softphone calls fail

Thank you.

Re: softphone calls fail

I have the same problem from the notebook, even when I plug it into the modem directly, bypassing the router.

Whats next?

Mark

Re: softphone calls fail

Well if you are having the same problem from another machine and all firewalls are disabled or set to allow communication with our softphone then all fingers point to your ISP.  I would contact them and let them know which ports must be open on your modem for a softphone to work properly.

These are the ports we recommend opening to have uninterrupted 2 way comm:

1.your protocol has to be UDP Inbound and Outbound.
2.port 21
3.port 53
4.port 69
5.port 123
6.port ranges, 5060-5070
7.port ranges, 10000-30000
